Those items will help, and probably give you a higher quality/more professional product, but they are definitely not required. An old eyeglass/watchmakers tiny repair screwdriver and a candle will easily put a hole in the leather. A cleaner hole in fact.

Just use a piece of fabric (like a normal wallet). It doesnt have to be 'all' leather. Hell it doesnt have to be leather at all. You can do this with any material.
