Ha! I just posted a series of replies to yesterday’s Newswire about Bros under-performing, not knowing there’s a hive of activity in the comments for today’s Newswire about Bros under-performing!

I’m not sure it’s ever a good idea for someone to speculate about why their movie has underperformed at the box office.  It’s always going to come off as resentful and defensive.

Come on, one of the leads of Brokeback tragically died at a young age. No one is going to want to come off as making fun of Heath Ledger, huge potential downside for little to no upside.

Doing Make-A-Wish is actually doing more material good in the world than taking social media “stands”, actually.

For real. I’ve occasionally worked in a local Children’s Hospital doing construction. It’s semantics, but with a franchise like this that is entirely composed of disconnected stories happening in alternate dimensions, can any new instalment truly be a “reboot”?

Yea appropriation arguments are often coming from ostensibly progressive people, but often turn into borderline cultural segregationalist arguments when taken too far.

On the other hand, if it makes young straight boys growing up now more comfortable/indifferent to seeing men in dresses, is that a bad thing? I also wonder how much of this discussion is America-centred in part because it's a very fraught issue there right now. 

I think it’s also very possible that Harry Styles is into it and enjoys it, but doesn’t think that much about it. We can unpack all the reasons that a white, straight-passing man can get away with that, but I honestly think the crux of it is that Harry Styles might not be that deep.

I feel similar about the commentary of the Bechdel test which I think is very valid to apply to movies when you looking at a broad spectrum of films and analyzing trends. If too many female lead films can’t pass it and and the trend if that its men behind the scenes making those films...then that is problem to work on.

amazing for your husband, kudos to her for embracing her identity. I’m starting to lean more into my own non-binary identity, and I’m nervous on some levels where it’ll take me but excited. Even though I don’t think it’d be a shock to anyone lol.

I kinda feel that way when any female character adopts any masculine trait she is now queer coded. Or maybe....she just like cargo pant storage and likes to whittles and have a pocket knife. Like leave her alone....or more specifically leave me alone. Because I do all those things and have been told I am queer…

I think Styles is deeply, almost tragically vapid. I wouldn’t attribute malice to his actions but I would say he’s careless. Because he’s stupid.

I believe the problem is the idolisation of people who happen to be in the public eye. Stan culture is obsessive, even just expectations from the general public of those in the spotlight are above what we would expect of the average person. So when someone like Harry chooses to dress how he wants or doesn’t share his…
