I actually just posted to make this case and somehow missed this whole thread.

Jungle Book is definitely top 2 or 3, but for my money I’d go with Robin Hood, an absolute hoot of a movie that features the great Roger Miller singing and narrating as the Rooster. Just go back and listen to Whistle Stop, Oo-De-Lally, the Phony King of England (sung by Harris), and especially Not in Nottingham (which

No, the difference is that Cletus and Lurlene didn’t even vote. And it’s a lot easier for rich whites to point fingers at those poor, dumb rednecks than face the heat themselves - which is basically what they’ve always done. It’s a neat trick that absolves them from any of the blame, even though the average income of

As a dumb white redneck, I can tell you that almost everyone I knew had the Marshall Mathers LP and Santana’s “Supernatural” growing up (I can’t explain the second one, but that’s the CD everyone had and no one listened to). The kids I grew up with loved rap (I was, weirdly, a jazz, Delta blues, and bluegrass guy),

Can someone explain to me the concept of “Matlocking”?

This is spot on. Disclosure: I’m a white person from WV, and a considerable portion of my life has revolved around items 1-10 excepting Sons of Anarchy (I still don’t understand the appeal of that show). Also, as someone who has frequented a Cracker Barrel or two in my day, I highly recommend the country fried steak.

I love “Blank Slate,” but I still think “About Today” - particularly the extended version from the Warrior soundtrack - is one of the best songs they’ve ever done and would have been a perfect, absolute barnstormer of a closer to Boxer.

The weird thing about this is that I totally agree with you, and most of the music I prefer is more danceable and less staid, and yet they’re my favorite band of all time. I think it’s just that abstract feeling of millennial ennui that their music evokes that no other band I’ve ever listened to has been able to

I would agree and disagree with you on that. I think King’s prose is (much) better, but Martin is far better at world craft. A Song of Ice & Fire is probably the most detailed and comprehensive example of world-building ever put to page, just edging out Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit/The Silmarillion.

Wait, so he was the Alien?

Teddy also led a scientific mapping expedition and discovered a 1000-mile long river in an unexplored section of the Amazon after his second term as President, which is maybe the most badass thing a U.S. President has ever done.

I clearly did not read far enough down this thread, because I came here to post exactly this.

Now playing

I am completely certain that more people could hit a home run. Why? Because just days shy of his 43rd birthday, career .085 hitter BARTOLO COLON once hit a home run. I rest my case.

UGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH. This is 100% going to happen to the Steelers and it’s going to be unbearable.

Seconding this. Weller is probably my favorite bourbon.

Woah woah woah. Let’s not start comparing apples and guitars. Seafoam green on a guitar is GORGEOUS*. Seafoam green on a car that is not a 1950s ‘vette is a very silly thing, indeed. But there are lots of colors that you would have on a guitar that you’d never think to put on a car.

*Disclaimer: I own a seafoam

There’s also the third option of “I like Sweet Home Alabama and have not developed the critical thinking skills to think deeply about the origins of this symbol. Free Bird!”

Parts of WV can support themselves just fine and are no better or worse off than most of the country. Other parts of WV mirror the third world even with federal funding. The idea that the state is some poverty-laden monolith is silly.

You’re talking about it, aren’t you? Seems like a pretty effective piece of political theater to me.
