I'm pretty sure those first few pages have no background because he wanted to use those camera angles without having to figure out how to render the background in perspective. It looks like it was drawn by a twelve year old because the artist is unskilled, not as a deliberate artistic choice.

I'm actually surprised that more people didn't mention Sleepaway Camp. Even thinking about the ending creeps me out. The over the top musical cues and the fact that it's so ridiculous is part of what makes it so freaky to me.
