I think Fallon's thing is supposed to be saying that it's influential because Fallon has doubled down on what his show does, which is the active attempt to be viral instead of vital.

And I wouldn't call Hedberg influential, since he still seems relatively unknown by the common person. This is not a slam on Hedberg, I just don't think he's become historically influential since his passing. There's not really a new branch of comedy that's been opened up.

I'm guessing the Kaufman bit is there just to clear the path for cringe comedy.
