The economist and the author above miss a key difference between these companies from Tesla. Tesla makes stuff. All the others don’t. The per unit cost with Tesla will sink it once the market fills with competitors/the grants run out (another huge difference) - when they have no competitive edge.

Spare me the eco/socio conscious hubris. The think the biggest risk to the environment is poverty and socialism. And both are supported by social and enviro justice warriors.

The participation rate needs to recover before that happens. It has started to recover under trump and it will accelerate if tax cuts happen regs continue to be reduced/eliminated (especially Obamacare) and infrastructure spending gets enacted late in this term or the second.

THese balloon purchase deals aren’t really 60 month amortization- they just end the contract - leaving a large lump to be paid - before the car is fully paid for. My guess is the actual amortization period is 84 or 96 months.

How is this a bad thing? Public transit is hopelessly uncompetitive in all but the highest density areas. Municipal governments would be better off subcontracting uber to Do suburban subsidized transit.

So Raphael, in your opinion what percentage of the participants cars were illegally stanced or in some other way violating the law?

If it isn’t being moved on a regular basis it should be removed - that’s what they would do with a derelict car or truck. But if the guy is driving it regularly and it is properly licensed then good for him

The net effect will be all cars will at least have brake energy recovery systems - hybrid - and the ability to add some energy via a plug-in.

It’s an excellent plan - lower taxes and less rules mean more wealth for everyone.
