They just added an entire war between the elves and Dwarves, put in some characters like Legolas and Tauriel, created a ton of non-excisting scenes with Radagast, Azog and Thranduil and shortened pretty much all the stuff that was in the books like the time spent in Bilbo's house or in Rivendell.
