I keep getting excited for the new well-reviewed rogue-likes, telling myself this is the one that’ll hook me, and then left feeling disappointed by the game. It happened with Hades and Enter the Gungeon and Dead Cells and Loop Hero and, now,  Returnal is no different. I love the more story-driven portions of the game,

Yeah, I’m really glad I got my PS5 before Forbidden West is released. That’s the game I’m really looking forward to.

I’d like to be playing Returnal this weekend, but my TV’s on the fritz, so I might have to wait until I get a new one. I’ve been playing some of the PS+ titles on my PS5 connected to a 27" screen (first Arkham Knight, now Uncharted 4), but I don’t think that’ll cut it for Returnal. Also, has anyone played Returnal that

So I’ve always enjoyed the Oddworld games (though the less said about Munch’s Odyssey the better), but Stranger’s Wrath was far and away my favorite. However, I would say its last third is what pushed it to favorite for me. I was enjoying it a lot, but when the plot stopped pulling punches is when it became legendary.

I’ve been hearing a lot about people’s love for Lost Odyssey lately, and I have to say I just don’t get it.

I don’t really like Arkham Horro as a multiplayer game. It takes way too long, and as the usual rules-interpreter, it’s frustrating having to explain every little thing. And because it’s so long, my game group doesn’t play nearly often enough to remember all the rules. As a single-player game, however, it’s sublime. I

Eh, I’d have removed Odyssey to make way for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, not Celeste. I just played through Celeste again recently (3rd time), and it’s probably my favorite Switch game. Pretty close to Stardew Valley (on the list) and Kingdom: New Lands (not on the list).

We had the Atari Lynx, because we had a subscription to Consumer Reports for Kids, and they said the Lynx was the best one. As short-lived as it was, I wish I was able to hold on to it. It was pretty impressive, though huge, and had some games I highly enjoyed, even though I really only remember Rygar.

How have I been watching this for 45 minutes?

Yeah yeah. The Mako was one of my favorite parts of the first Mass Effect. It was certainly a little annoying to control, but I loved wandering vast, mostly empty planets so much. For whatever reason, 28 year old me really felt like he was exploring distant worlds, and it was amazing. I’m sure today 41 year old me

While I admit VR-capability has me interested in Hitman 3, I’ve recently tried playing through the first Hitman reboot, and I’m not impressed. I’ve been through three missions, I think, and everything seemed a little too easy. Like there were so many ways of completing a mission, but all them involved following a map

Sounds intriguing, but I was never very good at getting the answers right when I watched Jeopardy, so I imagine I’d be terrible at this game. I haven’t, however, watched an episode of Jeopardy in at least twenty years (jeez, when did I get old?), so maybe it’s easier than I remember. Also, it seems like Jeopardy might

Not sure if this will help, but you’re pretty close to the end. With sidequests, Act 2 is by far the longest. Act 3 is pretty short with a few opportunities for sidequests, and 4 is linear and short.

I remember Play Magazine, way back when, gave Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) a glowing review. I was really excited to play and I was flabbergasted when I turned it on. I thought maybe I had the wrong game, but nope, this was the game I had read such positive things about. I stuck with it, hoping to get to the good stuff,

So Pillars of Eternity has completely sunk its hooks into me. After backing it on Kickstarter however many years ago, I was never able to actually beat the game. I’ve tried quite a few times, though, and once made it to act 3. But, as I wrote last week, I think I got pretty bored playing on easy and just stopped

I’ve since played Morrowind on PC, but my first experience was on Xbox. And while I know the PC version is far superior, especially if you include mods, I spent so many hours in the Xbox version. It took a few false starts, but I still consider it one of my favorite gaming experiences.

Man, I played Dragon Age: Origins on release, but that was it for the series until very recently. I bought Inquisition on sale a couple weeks ago, and was excited to start. I remember Origins fondly but can’t say why, and I’ve heard Inquisition was also good. However, and I don’t know if this is because I bought the

While I have no doubt that the Cyberpunk 2077 is fun (my brother has been having fun with it since release), I can’t help but worry about the trend of treating unreleased video games as some kind of second coming instead just, you know, a new video game. Making exorbitant promises can only harm the game and, more

I completely missed Timelie until I read this, and now I know I need it. Thanks, Merve!

I liked Nioh 2 because it scratched my itch for a Souls game in a year without Souls games. (No, the Demon’s Souls remake doesn’t count, since I can’t get a PS5.) I skeptically waited a while to pick this one up. I liked the first Nioh, but it didn’t grip me enough to want more. I never bought any DLC and stopped
