good list.

I don't have these problems. Clamav is free(as in speech) and free(as in beer). it doesn't bother me at all. That and I only run it when I am about to run a Wine app.

Are people really this stupid? i read the original post and didn't see anything offensive. Obviously my "insult-o-meter" was broken.

This is why I gave up on Christianity. people judging you for bullshit. People aren't worthy to judge me anymore than I am to judge them. Just read your Bible and shut the f-ck up.

internet stream from our public broadcasting "HD" music station. mostly classical, but they sometimes shakes things up.

@gyffes: yes. install an unpatched copy of windows xp sp3. tell me what works. and don't say xp ins't installed, because the recent xp extension proves that wrong. i refuse to sacrifice freedom to the false god of "ease of use".

@strabes: you say that, but how about the thousands(i am being literal) of support requests fro Windows I get every semester from classmates? Windows isn't any f-cking better, it is just more prevalent and there are more techs that are not like me (I don't do tech support for under $201) who will fix your virus

And, in Lifehacker style, no mention of Linux. Good on ya. Nothing like skipping the only FREE OS and software choice.

@Grahmo: I agree. But if the damn panda would eat the other plants in its current habitat, maybe it would have more time for reproduction.

This is great and all, but there are still some of us who are bored to tears with "social media". I don't have a facebook account. I don't get foursquare. I don't read twitter. I don't even know what Quora even is. I just don't care about other people enough to hang on every thing that comes out of their heads. I just

@kylecpcs: I'm glad medicine is still at the same place it was ten years ago. Or cars. Or how about environmentally clean products? Yep. It was great ten years ago. You are saying that there is no reason to to advance ever. Keeping a half-assed OS around for twenty years is the opposite of advancement.

@kylecpcs: and it shows how fucked up the personal computing industry has gotten where one OS can last that long without any advancements. this is sad news, not good news. MS is both the single best thing and single worst thing to happen to personal computing. this is not news to rejoice. it is shameful.

@Meadhawg: i hear you loud and clear. we are in much the same boat (a large GI clinic), though we have very few life and death choices, we do have a lot of vendor locking and bullshit. thankfully my boss would take none of that AV shit from GE and we do use AV, though of course it isn't perfect.

I saw this on another site this morning but as far as I can tell, as an American, I'm out of luck, right?

if i have rights to move an app to the Applications folder, it really shouldn't be bother me about it. I have made my choice and deserve what i get. If i run it from my home dir, then, yes, I can see warning you. at least on windows it only warns you on the installer, not every damn time you open it.

@ericesque: i think the fresh prince theme is way more telling than Lorem Ipsum. people scan Lorem Ipsum because they can't read it, but with fresh prince it is still nonsense, but you can read it clearly.

@athenarouse: medical places sometimes won't do business, i know around here, if you need blood work done, your ssn is the only number that will work across all the different emr/ehr systems in place. it is a freaking nightmare. (HL7 sucks)
