Thanks for writing this. I'll wager a lot of us riders have done something similar-ish, and it’s nice to hear that even the best can fuck it up sometimes. Like a Chris Harris crash.

That last one of the two trucks side by side just FREAKS ME OUT.

I agree 100%. I’ve ridden a Honda CBR 1100XX Super Blackbird (the bike that the Hayabusa was built to beat, speed-wise) and THAT is both a beautiful bike AND a comfortable one. Plus it comes with side cases and it’s a legit sport tourer that will do 175mph. What’s not to love?

BTW, I saw French Exit in an online New York Film Festival preview, and it’s...AWESOME. Pfeiffer, in particular, is awesome.

Contra: it is not good.

Many years ago, junkies broke into my apartment building garage, smashed a window on my 2002 Outback Sport and used the valet key in the glove box to drive it away, crashing into an inside wall on the way.

Hey, I didn’t get my LICENSE until I was 23. Shortly afterwards I bought my first car (a 1981 Mini 850) from my sister... Mind you, this was England in the early 90's.

Several years ago, I was riding my motorcycle from Marin down towards the Golden Gate Bridge, and I could see it was all backed up, and the bridge was closed. I filtered through the traffic and there was a CHP bike at the entrance to the bridge doing figure-eights - basically running a traffic break while some stuff

Really Bradley? I mean, you’re a bike guy (as well as a Leaf guy).

So you need your $200M entry fee PLUS another $200M to pay for your cars and people for the season. Is that also plus that $500K entry fee?

The [specific car you love] is the kind of car every Jalop want but would never buy.”

Not potentially victim-blaming here, but if you park the Changli all the way in like that, some other car (or TRUCK!) will drive along, assume it’s an empty space and be all the way up the Changli’s rear end before they realize the parking spot is taken...

I’m still mad that my wife removed the Bernie bumper sticker from the car. I had to remove one from my motorcycle after some...issues when riding in eastern Oregon over the summer. That’s Trump-land, and they don’t take too well to us socialists.

Have a partner who is accepting of your wrenching time and ‘excess’ of vehicles. Cannot be overestimated.

Last year I bought a 2000 Triumph Sprint ST 955i for $1500. I’ve put 4500 miles on it since then, and it’s incredible. Of course, I also have much newer adventure bike (a Kawasaki Versys 1000 LT), but the Triumph, battered though it is, is still my favorite in many ways.

Actually, screw it, I'm just incredibly jealous you get to live in a Paul Revere Williams house! I just watched a great documentary about him as part of the Architecture and Design Film Festival. Is it as nice as it looks?

Hope to see you on Hwy 431 (Mount Rose Highway) soon! Ideally on the Zero SR/S, so I can see one in the flesh...

Did you already have the VW shirt, or did they throw that in with the car?

Brings back memories of my S-Line A3 - same engine and gearbox.

Not sure about cars, but in the motorcycle world, it’s very common - not just Harley riders decked out in full H-D gear, but all the BMW riders I know have at least one item of Beemer clothing - typically a jacket or pants. I have a Kawasaki hat and also Triumph and Ducati t-shirts.
