Definitely a dense novel, but it takes the form of an adventure/friendship story and is extremely moving in its final passages. So the weight of M&D isn’t the main aspect that you remember, IMO.

Yes, Mason & Dixon is maybe the best novel of the 90's. The structure and format are difficult, but Pynchon puts them to great use. It’s an extremely entertaining and emotionally rewarding read.
