Off-topic: what do you use for a distillation rig? I don't want to have to buy a whole done of stuff, and I have a steamer I can use for part of it. It' super efficient at making the water by products- non-ingestion grade but still useful for me. However, I need a condenser tube to get the oils separated from the

Minor corrections- You are overall correct, but aspirin was formerly derived from willow bark. Ibuprofen was derived from propanoic acid, which was originally identified as a degradation product of sugars. Also, just to clarify, menthol is derived from mint type plants (peppermint, spearmint, etc).

Okay, so other people have already pointed out some very clear errors in the study design and the conclusions that are reported on here and at the site Jez got it from. I would like to comment on this bit:

I am super curious about this. Did you just straight up post recipes as responses?

Okay, so I didn't reply because I still didn't understand your questions (brain receptors=still waaaay too broad) and then I got busy and forgot to come back and ask you what you meant. BUT! Someone just linked me to this: http://www.bbc.com/news/health-18… Is this one of the articles you saw? If it isn't, if you're

I definitely agree with this. I know in my own experience, I was a somewhat overweight kid (combo of genetics, parents not having the proper resources for nutrition info until much later in the game, and developing some messed up attitudes towards food early on), and that made gym class both difficult and emotionally

Sam Bee seemed like the obvious choice to me, perhaps in a parody of one of those FOX morning shows where haircuts sit on a chesterfield and run their mouths faster than their brains, maybe with Jason Jones as a co-host.

He also seemed to be the only one that actually was talking like a teen girl instead of the OTT impression the other two were doing (and his selfie faces were kind of perfect), which I found kind of interesting.

No problem! I know stuff, so I feel somewhat obligated to share information where I am able to.

Hey, toxicology/epidemiology type here. I just want to clarify a few points:

Totally agree with you but just want to clarify one thing- you frequently don't have kids just swallow MMS/bleach. Very often, you also get the option of giving it to them as a goddamn enema. Never underestimate alt med and autism "biomed" to be the worst possible thing.

Now playing

It's also generally accepted that the Ted Leo and the Pharmacists song "Me and Mia" is about eating disorders, although I don't think Ted has ever confirmed it.

I really, really like this, even if it just breaks down into "Do I use some hairspray or ALL OF THE HAIRSPRAY?" or "Do I need to plan to make myself un-gross when I get to work?" for me

I swear to god this story is true: I came home from work shortly after the movie came out and my neighbors across the hall were blasting Everything is Awesome, for like, no reason at all. I stood outside for a moment and nodded with approval upon realizing that was what it was.

Fun fact! The girl with dark hair in the pink and blue outfit is Laura Jayne Smith, dancer, burlesque performer, and older sister of Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith. This was apparently tabloid fodder when he got cast in the role, because... reasons, I guess? I just find it to be an interesting fact, because I think they

I have so many things to say, but I'm going to attempt to keep this short for once. But I will put this out there: the NIH funding studies of energy healing is in no way shape or form an endorsement of those modalities. NCCAM exists because politicians demanded it, not because it was scientifically warranted. It is

I'm no professional, but I cook a lot, and I do feel that when I'm working with my hands bare, I'm a lot more aware of WHEN I need to wash my hands. I think if you're wearing gloves, it's easier to forget.

Well, when I googled to find the wiki article, all but like 3 of the links (wiki, skepdic, and rational wiki) were all sites treating it as totally legit. So... hippies, man.

Holy shit. While most quack treatments for autism just give me the sads (because they are pretty universally awful and unethical), I have never wanted anything to be true more than "Jenny McCarthy rubbed her kid with silver spoons because autism." Like I am laughing uncontrollably typing that sentence. Like, at least

I know right? I always feel it is relevant to a discussion of Jenny and her health advice. Because, really, simple check: does this person think they/someone they know has mutant abilities like in comics? Yes? Do not take their advice. On anything.
