Yup. I'd also propose that this is why overweight/obese individuals who are consistently active are roughly as healthy as those at a lower weight. They get the QOL benefits, even if their weight remains the same, and the activity is (I would guess) more helpful with heart disease risk than just losing weight.

Incorrect. 1/3. Specifically about 35%.

No. "Epidemic" means incidence rates are above what would be expected. It does not mean anything related to morbidity or mortality. It is just a classification regarding the rate at which new cases are occurring.

Of course. :) What about it?

I like to argue that cognitive/behavioral factors are the next big frontier for research on obesity. When I bring up eating disorders, people tend to tell me I'm just an alarmist, but I think that sort of paradigm matters here. We have to think about how society at large, family culture, personal experience, etc shape

I will agree that the situation is complex, but I also want us to be clear that within the scientific community that the obesity epidemic is not a narrative. The way that it is presented in the lay press certainly is less than honest, but from an epidemiological perspective it is a real thing.

As someone whose favorite holiday has been Halloween for forever, I echo the making your own costumes thing. There is something so much more satisfying about wearing a costume you (and your parents when you're little) put together on your own, even if it doesn't look perfect. Let him be whatever, even if it's weird.

Alright assholes who are saying "Well, it isn't that hard to get ID." Here's the deal. THAT IS BESIDE THE POINT.

Really, everyone/everyone is probably a ship.

This picture is pretty out of date (she's much older now) but this is our baby. She's a pit/lab mix, and is dressed up for her very first Halloween. My mom (in the picture) still dresses her up every year. She's going to be a cowboy this year.

Because the internet is wonderful, its already a Tumblr. http://bindersfullofwomen.tumblr.com/

My tiny, tiny friend looked at that and said "Wait, I can curl 25lbs..."

In lieu of a rant, please have this gif.

You, sir, are my favorite person today.

I grew up in Pittsburgh, and I am totally willing to buy this story. From absolutely everything I know about the guy from around town (and about a bunch of the other people that worked on the show like Mr. McFeely), this sounds like something that could definitely happen.

I think that is something everyone should be able to support.

If the episode didn't lie to me, it's a gibbon, so it is a monkey. It's arms are sort of sloth looking though.

OH GOD #5. That is totally the one I'm going with because that is my favorite. episode. EVER. Hell, I'm glad you posted that so that people will know what I'm talking about when I go on about the madness that is that episode. The murder weapon is a tiger! And the initial suspect gets eaten by hyenas! It's just 60

I like this as well!

Replying to hopefully bump you up. This sounds like a perfectly reasonable way to handle it. By not using real people and animated characters instead, I would think that it would anonymize it somewhat.
