I was ranting to someone the other day that the real problem with 50 Shades isn't that it is quite literally fanfic, but that it is ridiculously awful fanfic. Good fanfic exists if your willing to look! It's not all this barely high school level crap that I'm betting checks off ALL the fanfic related TV Tropes.

I think it's more that 50 Shades has managed to make smut!fic a thing in society at large, instead of being something lots of people read online, or in stories that got passed around before the internet was a thing.
