I watched that with my dad when I was an 11yo! Afterwards he taught me how to break a man’s instep!

I really, really want this movie to be good, but I can’t say that I find the casting of Elizabeth Moss overly inspiring *dodges things being thrown at me*

because that is literally the purpose of the government. The government takes in taxes, and uses those taxes for things that are believed to be public or common goods. now, what falls under public/common goods is really what’s up for debate here. We can probably all agree that national defense is a public good

A First World Problem would be complaining about the less than a fraction of a fraction of a cent it costs you to subsidize the basic internet access to those who are substantially less well off than you.

You mean like the two TRILLION dollar that’s went to bail out the banks. When completed Congress asked if then Bernake he would tell them where the money went he answered in a single word.

Go to the library to use the Internet? C’mon, man, that’s third-world. How many times a day do you check email or the web or your LinkedIn or Facebook or Twitter?

I didn’t say you hated anyone. Lack of Internet access is certainly an obstacle to improving one’s life. I hope we can all agree on that. If not, unplug your phone and PC for a day for just a small taste.

You do know that school libraries in poor neighborhoods aren’t tech centers right? You also know that not everyone lives within walking, or even driving, distance of a public library right? You also know that to get into college you first have to pass grade school, junior high and high school right?

I hate to break this to you, but libraries across the country are being shut down as the first in the line of budget fire. Public transport isn’t far behind, so those people who used to have a library in their neighborhood are pretty much fucked.

By providing access to the internet, we encourage those people to be consumers, which helps the economy and helps bring in taxes. The net benefit is worth it.

Net neutrality is not about cheap internet- it’s about OPEN internet- everybody has access to the same info and there isn’t a rich people’s internet and a (let’s face it) lesser poor people’s internet.

Not being able to afford basic internet service in 2017 is the same as not having a home phone line in 1985. It won’t kill you, but it puts you at a huge personal and economic disadvantage compared to people who do have the service.

Well, we ARE a first-world country, and lack of Internet access hinders our citizens. Do you want the poor to have more opportunities to improve their (and everyone’s) lives, or do you want to leave yet another obstacle in their path? Speaking for myself, I’m more than happy to pay a few additional tax dollars to help

Is America not a first world nation anymore?

And that’s the problem. Too many in this country think the Internet is a First World Problem. It’s the 21st century - that’s not the case anymore.

Here’s my central problem with Republican policies as illustrated by this article.

Seriously. The modern Democratic leadership let the GOP beat us at gerrymandering, so we lost the House. They fucked up bad and we lost the Senate. Out of a 20 year run, we’ll have had the White House for less than 50% of the time. Not to mention state governorships and legislatures.

My favorite thing about this election is that the same people who always bitched that Obama was soft on Putin are now enthusiastically supporting a guy who is openly sucking his dick. Excuse my language.

Living in a ‘factors leading to’ paragraph is terrifying.

“The enemy isn’t men, or women, it’s bloody stupid people and no one has the right to be stupid.”
