In general I’ve never understood the whole ‘You can’t be proud of working hard or actually acknowledge you need to work hard’ thing. Stuff requires effort, sometimes a lot of effort it’s not a bad thing to actually go ‘Oh yes I worked very hard to do this’

No. She got more shit because she got bad press the entire Oscar season for her behavior (deserved or not), where he was only seen as obnoxious during his speech.

This! It’s the same reason I hate the use of “try-hard” as an insult. Trying hard isn’t a negative quality! Unless you are trying hard to be a serial killer or something, it’s either a “normal human being” quality or an actively good one. And that’s really the worst thing people seem to have to say about Hathaway -

Particularly as I’m not sure she realized she’d be doing it alone while James Franco flopped about uselessly.

When all the hate started piling on, I’d only ever seen her in Rachel Getting Married—an amazingly good movie—and she was fantastic. Really fantastic.

[Jennifer Lawrence] was adored because she seemed like she didn’t care and wasn’t trying to be amazing, that conforming to every conventional marker of female beauty and likeability and success just came naturally to her. Whereas we get uncomfortable when women show they’re working hard at it, because it’s a reminder

I like her. People shit on her because she’s too earnest and tries too hard, but she fucking hustles and really does want people to like her.

It would be an almost impossible line to walk without coming across as ungrateful I imagine

Remember when Matthew MacConaughey thanked himself, his past self and his future self, and no one else? Why are we not still mocking that? That speech deserved actual scorn.

Yup. I hated the way Lawrence was being put up on this pedestal because when we do that to celebs we tend to knock them off it just as energetically.

The load of shit she got always struck me as very bitch eating crackers.

Yeah, I was so bored with the hate she got. It was so symptomatic of the bullshit standard of *effortless* perfection women, especially celebs, get held to. Hathaway showed that she was working hard to be liked and validated. Everyone remember how at this time Jennifer Lawrence was at peak adulation and everyone loved

I have no problem whatsoever with Anne Hathaway. Competent engaging actress. And her turn as Miley Cirus on Lip Sync Battle was brilliant.

My good friend from college had smoked pot with her once because HER bestie happened to have Hathaway as a roommate when Hathaway was doing the college thing post princess diaries. And she said she was so nice and real and funny and self-deprecating. When all the hathahating started, I couldn’t get my friends very

she didn’t deserve any of the hate she got. we made fun of her for being thirsty for an oscar when everyone in the industry is. why did she get singled out?

I don’t know how you’re finding that.

The closest he came was throwing his wife under the bus with the speech joke.

And he made fun of himself. Donald is incapable of doing so.

I found myself fondly reminiscing the days when tying your dog in its crate to the roof of your car was an authentic election season scandal. Life was simpler then.

If it was a commercial product, probably. But this was a satirical mod.
