I agree completely with your overall statement, but disagree on which installments. Overall, though, it was a passable adaptation, but not what I would call a great one.

I would wholeheartedly disagree. Some installments captured the plot and world but missed the spirit (1&2), some nailed the tone and spirit but changed/deletes large bits of plot (3), one just failed on all levels (4), and some were fairly good, but still far from perfect (5-7.2). They tried, and I would say they…
Absolutely. I think I first really noticed when they rebooted 90210. I was in high school/college for the original, and I thought Kelly and Brenda super hot and wanted to be just like them. The new one came out, and the girls on that one are a whole other level of thin.
Also, water is... not great, as lube.
I think so! And journals and little art-reproduction statues. I did like a lot of their jewelry, too. I liked that it was copies of things historical people had actually worn. I couldn’t afford it in high school though.
I don’t want this set, but does anyone remember when The Museum Store used to be in basically every mall? I loved their scarves/umbrellas/random puzzles. I think there are still a couple somewhere but all the ones near me are gone, sadface.
For us, what helped is picking the next date at the end of the current session. It’s not perfect, and sometimes it gets moved, but having everyone pull out their phones and put it on the calendar while we’re all still together seems to help. That way we’ve found a date that at least tentatively works for everyone, and…
Definitely. I gave up on Supernatural when the crappy new stuff started to overwrite my memories of the seasons when it was still good. :( Which was about 2 seasons ago.
Oh. Yes. This. You have captured it perfectly, and also depressed the ever-living hell out of me, but I was having a bad day anyway.
I’m actually a little bit torn. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’ll have to take a smoke break (I don’t smoke) at 6pm ET to go outside and do a happy dance. But at the same time, he was the GOP candidate I had the most detailed arguments against, since all my conservative in-laws live in Wisconsin. So I’m back at square…
I agree. I hated that she chose Peeta, but it was inevitable. Peeta needed her, and Gale didn’t, and Katniss would do anything for someone who needed her. Which is also why she was going to have kids, even though it was the one thing she absolutely didn’t want.
This. This so much. I appreciate what Obama has done - and historically, I appreciate what he is symbolically - but damn if I didn’t think he was going to be a LOT more liberal than he turned out to be. As soon as he folded on single-payer without a fight the honeymoon was over for me.
Propworx did a huge auction of the BSG props and costumes in Pasadena about a year after the show ended. I took the day off work to go... and got to climb into a Viper and have my picture taken. It was awesome.
Well, I think lots of people have jobs that involve doing things they’re not comfortable with. For instance, I sometimes have to call vendors and ask them to waive late fees, even though my clients absolutely incurred the late fees and personally I think they should have to pay them. So asking the company to waive the…
I, too, am atheism.
This is not my story; I just witnessed it. 2nd period, 1st day of school, sophomore year (HS). This girl I’ve known as a vague acquaintance (our moms were briefly coworkers) since kindergarten walks in, about 5 minutes after the bell. The girl is very awkward, badly dressed, and I think she had some sort of learning…
I’d argue that Outlander makes Kushiel’s Dart filmable. Game of Thrones does the sword-and-sorcery-with-politics thing, but Outlander proves it can be done with a female protagonist, and a lot of sex, mostly consensual.
Yes, Kushiel’s Dart is first. There are only 3 books in its direct series, then 3 more with many of the same characters, but with a different protagonist and about ten years later.
Hmm. I do think we’re still at the point where it would be a challenge, but I feel like Outlander is a really good template for it. Female-centered, some intrigue, some action, a lot of sex. And gorgeously shot. I think it could be done.
I won one by mail! In California, like Gloff. I mean, technically it was my husband’s ticket, but I re-wrote his declaration and did all the follow-up calling. But you do have to pay upfront before you get to fight it in that case.
