When did SUVs become worth collecting or paying a premium for?
False.
What never gets discussed with #8 is that increasing the pressure can result in increased wear on the crown of the tire and more often than not ( if the manufacturer hasn’t specified a pressure that sacrifices the outer-edge wear for comfort or handling ) seldom produces the savings in fuel to offset the cost of…
Working in the tire industry, I’ve come across more than one person who believes that tires should be inflated to the max PSI stamped on the sidewall, and even more people who have no clue that the OEM’s recommended PSI is located on a sticker in the driver side door jamb. Honestly, it’s pretty wild how little the…
I’m not sure if I 100% agree with the pickup-in-the-snow comment. Yes, the weight balance is not as good, but I currently have a pickup and an alltrack, both of which run snow tires. I find the truck to be better in the snow because of weight. The rear has a limited slip to deal with any traction loss but the truck…
Paint and body is the big expense not being considered here. That can run $10k, and looks to be okay here. I would say it’s a decent price if you include that. If I wanted one of these, and the color were right, it would be a good purchase.
There’s also no real reason to keep the powertrain Ford, unless you put an actual 427 in there.
Now that car looks like 34k!
I’m on board with “no dice” but your assessment is all wrong. Perhaps you underestimate how incredibly good these cars are. A properly done Cobra, replica or not, would dust a Miata on any track in any direction.
~400 hp and a ton of low end torque in a 2200 pound car with zero driver aids that’s notoriously hard to keep on the road? Hard pass. 302 is the right move if you actually want to drive one of these.
(*Disclaimer: I’m a fan of David Tracy’s articles, and of Jeeps)
It might be my own dislike of the E39 talking - and I haven't liked it from the moment I saw it - but there really isn't anything timeless about a '90s soap bar.
In the pantheon of “people who weren’t the saints we thought they were” I’m not sure if Paul Walker would rank up there with the (literal saint) Mother Teresa’s of history…
I totally agree. I remember when they came out I was close to driving age and everyone saying, “Junk, won’t even last long enough to pay one off.” Yet here we are 32 years later and I still see all generations of them on the road. I can imagine that many of these cars had a dozen plus owners, dubious maintenance…
Nissan Mirano Crosscabriolet.
It’s the Prius for sure.
“Mazda CLAIMS that it is because most people dont drive that far”
They aren’t really strong enough to do that. The point of sway bars is to increase the spring rate on the outside wheel when the inside wheel is down.
They are not the same thing though. An independent suspension is good because wheel geometry on one side will not be altered by a bump at the other wheel. A sway bar doesn’t change that. A sway bar increases roll resistance. A solid axle does not help with roll resistance. They are two different things.
