I take issue with the premise that most people need to drive around in a big, soulless box with mediocre handling, performance, and boring as hell looks.

But why? Sedans/hatches work just fine for most people. Not to mention fuel economy and price difference are still significant. A Corolla Hybrid is a lot cheaper and more efficient. Even in EVs, a Model Y has higher price and a lot lower highway range.
Can’t say I am impressed. It’s too expensive. If I were to buy a nice boring fuel efficient car, I would be looking at the Corolla Hybrid for about $7,000 less. The CR-V just doesn’t offer anything that I need to justify the price.
No, because SUVs suck. Buy a Accord instead.
That just tells you how much the Civic has ballooned. The current Civic is larger and heavier than an Accord from not that long ago. Everything is, which is a trend. Fine.
I wasn’t singling out the CR-V in terms of MPG disappointment. The entire Hybrid CUV segment is disappointing to me. I also think a giant CUV as a city car is a very ridiculous concept.
I can’t think of a more boring car. Still, it’s the omni-tool of cars, and that’s very good. I will probably end up recommending it to most people who ask me which car they should buy.
33 mpg in 2022 is pretty damn embarrassing for anything, let alone a hybrid. We hit those numbers in petrol sedans in the late 90s. But people like giant shit that comes with a weight penalty so here we are, calling a CR-V with 200 hp and a CVT a good car.
for real, this thing is huge for a single person commuting.
If I wanted a CRV, why would I want one that’s damn near as big as a Pilot? Can’t manufacturers keep their models the same goddamn size? How hard is that? I don’t want an Accord the size of an Avalon or a Civic the size of a Camry either.
I look forward to seeing them going 5 under in the left lane at all times and being parked as crooked as possible in handicap spots.
The local Honda dealers here have been selling ‘used’ 2022 Civic LXs with 500 miles for like $29K. ‘Used’ 2022 Civic Sport hatches are listed for $32-$34K. ‘Used’ 2022 SIs, they’re selling for $36-37K. The new CTR is going to be predictably expensive already, but I imagine that these scummy, shitbag, greedy dealers…
I honestly think this is at the heart of why Tesla owners are such zealots. They have extended themselves financially to get the car so it MUST be more than a car, it must be the second coming of Christ.
“What you consider a lot of money could be a non-issue to other people.”
I don’t know - seems like a bombshell report about rampant sexual abuse and harassment at a major electric car company, specifically when that report comes on the heels of numerous racial abuse/harassment lawsuits, is pretty topical for a car enthusiast website.
I really wish we could get these announcements with the supporting data that CARB is using. They aren’t throwing a dart at the wall and saying “guess it’ll be 2027". They are looking at data that says “there are X number of trucks being used in the state and local governments and based on the service life and these…
There's a joke in there somewhere about Hertz and electric vehicles....
Excellent! A chance to be pedantic about maritime transportation:
I’m surprised no one has considered Scion.
Do people really think it’s that bad? I think it’s cool looking! Almost a future take on the current MDX, which I guess makes sense. Sure the nose is canted a bit forward and...yoke. But it’s not likely it’ll be this dramatic in production.
