In NYC, I’ve had my pedals stolen, my handlebars stolen and my toe straps stolen twice. I’ve had thieves try to steal almost every other larger component also, but they failed due to locking bolts.

I have used solder and it totally works. It does not fall out. In fact, it deterred two thieves who tried to steal my handlebars at 4am a few months ago, I got it on camera. Perhaps in theory it’s supposed to fall out, but in practice it does not.
