Agreed. If people I come across like the same types of music (I’m a huge fan of prog rock and metal), I might venture to ask if they’ve heard of this band or that band, but I never come at them with “You need to listen to [band name here]!”

Yeah, that’s how marketing works. It’s their job to make sure the product they sell is marketed correctly and doesn’t lose traction with their user base. Everything you do as a company affects sales, and that absolutely includes the public’s perception of your organization.
