You both sound exhausting.

They should make a movie where a woman is stalked by a transwoman. Then, not only will nobody believe her, they’ll call her a hateful bigot for trying to protect herself.

Being an adult is about making hard choices in a rational, pragmatic way—you’re never going to get everything you want all at once.

Bernie Sanders spent the Democratic primary railing against Clinton as someone who wasn’t progressive enough (how many times did I have to hear him bitch about the importance of $15 min wage vs. $12?), sold Jon Orsoff down the river as someone who wasn’t a true “progressive”, but now suddenly he and his base are

My bodily autonomy is not small potatoes

So... what if it wasn’t abortion? What if Mello was a supporter of the Wall? Or the Muslim ban? Or stop and frisk?

What you call “purity bullshit” women call “agency over my corporeal self.” Or, put another way, what you would have called “purity bullshit” 170 years ago was also known as “supporting the ownership of other human beings.”

Jesus, Jezebel...why are you still pretending porn is not problematic in the first place? This is not about which company treats the performers better (and there’s a reason not a big deal is made of a dude’s being in porn; though I would argue it dehumanizes him as well by turning him into an abuser-for-pay, his abuse

I think what this article, and quite frankly most articles on Jezebel forget is that porn is an industry, meaning that the people who are “experts” in it and the people with a stake in it will of course defend it and pretend that these examples of exploitation are fringe examples and aren’t the real experience.

I don’t know why Jezebel is always defending the porn industry. The porn industry is major thorn in the side of feminism. It’s not and never has been about women proudly expressing their sexuality. It’s about male fantasy and objectification, and now that everyone has constant access to it, it influences society’s

But the male performers aren’t being choked until they vomit.

When I watched the doc I thought that what is enticing to these girls is the hope that they could “make it to LA.” They’re hoping for the big break and have bought in 100% to the Kim Kardashian playbook. Do a sex tape. Hit in porn. Go mainstream. Get rich.

No, pornography is inherently disposable and inherently capitalistic. It’s very existence is built around exploitation of resources. The documentary is correct. You are incorrect.

I am going to assume that your main problem with the film is that it perpetuates the narrative of women being ruined by sex. That the most valuable aspect of womanhood is “feminine virtue”, commonly conflated as celibacy and sexual purity. While I agree that this ideology is a systemic issue within our society, I

I find Jez’s view on pornography just so black-and-white and old-fashioned. To me, being sex-positive is so different from being porn-positive. I love sex, love talking about it and have no issues trying different things, but I dislike a majority of the mainstream porn out there. Mainly for the reasons it teaches guys

Oh for god’s sake. You’re criticizing a documentary that highlights the realities of exploitation in the industry just because it doesn’t tow the cliche sexwork good/it’s not exploitation it’s empowerment party line?

I feel like the author of this article couldn’t have watched the movie too closely, as she seems to have missed a lot of the content. I agree with you, the film covered this very well with Tressa’s situation.

Nor does it touch on the shaming of sex workers and porn actresses, which Kernes says in his experience can be far more toxic than having sex on camera.

I think my thing is at the end of the day Porn is a BUSINESS. And its a business that consumers don’t/ don’t want to pay for. So companies are going to do what they have to do to make that bottom line. And you trotting out 2 of your “sex worker friends” doesn’t refute that. And from my understanding porn businesses

@PhillyLass: My brother is overweight (highly overweight, don't know if he's obese). He is ashamed to admit that he would not be attracted to someone his size, so that's one thing; he realizes the hypocrisy in it. More over, he has sweating issues, he's exhausted after his 10 hour work days, he always feels
