People buying $60k cars aren’t independently wealthy by any means. The folks making 100's of thousands will be laid off in droves soon. Trust me. It may not be as immediate as the service industry (who are hosed right now) but this will affect enormous swaths of America, well-off and poor alike.

Really good info, thanks. Sadly, the Army Corp has received “no orders yet” to take any action building hospitals.

Hey, fair point, of course! Problem is, if there’s no auto industry (or myriad others that’ll be wiped out), there’s no one going to restaurants. So while I agree that service workers are now and for the foreseeble future, totally fucked, if we don’t get our *industry* moving, they will continue to be fucked for years

I’m not sure about this... But I can’t help but agree. They fucked us all over after the 2008 collapse and never, ever made good. Fuck their shareholders.

It’s a global economy, man. If we build it, even from parts made elsewhere (or vice versa), that’s still a huge net benefit to us all. And the economics of selling cars is FAR more than just where the factories and assembly takes place -- Sales, service, distribution, marketing, engineering, design; It’s all upside

C’mon man, you understand math: Conservative estimates are 40-60% of us will get this over the course of a year+, regardless of your TV-watching/hand-washing regiment this week. The economic consequences will be more “how do I eat” and less “I like my CRX.”

Yes, but be extra careful. If you need medical assistance, whew [shivers]...

Enjoy your mom’s funeral.

Grandpa Arnold > Commando Arnold.

Okay:

Nice, this cooped up person will be making a simmered been and rice dish tonight. Thanks Bill! Stay safe.

“It is almost certain that more people will die from the flu than coronavirus.”

They might. Layers work too. Worth a try! What you give up in ultra-function or fashionability, you get back via your sanity. Also, long walks with music work too.

Day five here — You have no idea.

Having been isolating for five days so far (ugh), this is saving my life. Fortunately, I’ve got an epic running trail next to my home, but the increasingly empty streets are just fine.

Solid. So you cook your rice in the stew? I need to try that...

VERY good topic, Emily. A lot of people are or will be struggling with this.

You train your dog. With a cat, you reach détente.

Weird. Mine tucks us in — Runs to the bed as we get in, snuggles in tight under the covers, waits for us to doze off (never, ever before), then takes off. It’s the coolest.

Clearly, you’ve never owned an actual live, face-licking, needs walking, poops anywhere BUT a box on his own, dog.
