So you think all the funniest people in the cast should “hang up their cleats” so that.... the cast can do something funny....?

I think it also showed up the show’s continued diversity issues with the female cast, as Maya is the only biracial female currently involved with the show (and was not even involved with the show when they asked her to play Kamala).
Exactly this. White dudes going after white women is still punching down and it’s not like the conversation re: problematic white women hasn’t been happening in comedy and irl.
That was easily the best Weekend Update in quite some time. The Kate and Pete bits -- with “I’m obviously not” being maybe the line reading of the week -- plus just straight-up spitting fire from Jost and Che this week...
I saw Michelle Wolf shortly after the WHCA, she did a great bit about white women in social justice movements.
She absolutely nailed the Barrymore impression! Drew seems drunk even when she isn’t, which makes her a good target if the impression works.
If a comedian wants to do a routine about the Yankees and the only punchlines they can come up with involve Derek Jeter and A Rod, they should have a filter that tells them to forget it. If a comedian wants to do a political routine and can only come up with this stuff, the same filter should kick in.
It’s not a bad impression–it’s got a bit of Fire Marshall Bill in there that somehow catches Biden’s wiry old-man energy. But I’m not happy that they seem to be taking the ‘Biden is senile’ route.
No mention of the Drew Barrymore talk show bit? The only sketch that I thought consistently nailed it. But it’s helped that I’ve actually caught (and watched with jaw dropped amazement) a number of episodes so got all the references--my friend didn’t even know she had a talk show and was pretty much lost. I was…
Honestly, Chris Rock’s opening monologue really pissed me off. It was 90% just the same old “the government doesn’t work” crap that fails to realize that the government failing to work, especially these days, is primarily the result of one party doing absolutely everything they can to prevent the government from…
As an additional note on the cold open, as well as the Weekend Update, I thought the show handled the Trump’s Covid case pretty well. I mean, it is a struggle as you really don’t want that on anyone, but at the same time here it has a very deep karmic sense to it. And I think that was the joke they managed to hit on.
I was legitimately shocked how much I liked Carrey’s take on Biden. Some of the jokes on the actual debate kind of missed because the reality of it was so absurd it was even difficult to hit on something, but the commitment and character were there. And Biden struggling to contain that anger is not only a source of…
Right, but he’s still a gullible, unquestioning shitburg that doesn’t know when he’s being played, and that can be just as dangerous with a large enough audience.
So you’re saying he’s more of a shitneck?
Reminds me of how Louie on the show Louie played a father who's often an asshole and loves masterbating. Turns out it wasn't acting.
Go back to what I suppose is his sole acting credit (that I know of), the series ‘Broadcast News’. Its funny how Andy Dick’s spaz character on that series turned out to resemble the real Andy Dick, and Joe Rogan’s conspiracy nut meathead character turned out to resemble the real Joe Rogan.
Let’s be honest, Disney doesn’t care about this movie and that’s ultimately why they probably just don’t want to do the work of providing review copies and really don’t care if nobody shows up to watch it.
It is gloriously apropos that a movie featuring Illyana Rasputin has been stuck in Limbo for years.
It’s a little odd that the show gets a series nomination and 3(!!!) writing nods, but not a single actor nod. I know its sort of hard to choose because the entire cast really is excellent, but carve out a spot for one of them and pick a name out of a hat.
Satisfying and hilarious. “It’s tough to be a white man in America” says a US senator planning to run for president. The human eye isn’t capable of rolling hard enough, which is why that line made me laugh...right up until my brain caught up with the fact that his character isn’t a caricature. It’s an accurate…
