I'd bet all of eternity that it's CNC'd, and not handcrafted. And if you are going to CNC that, you can find a way to make the line either disappear (dowel pins and emery paper) or move it to a more sensical location.

First off, sorry for the defensive tone of my comment which I thought matched a perceived offensive tone in your's (and was mostly motivated by the stupidity of the comments regarding CFRP here after the Walker/Rodas crash.)

Yeah, you can make CF in pretty much any fashion you want. It's just plies that are stacked and then infused with resin (more or less). The plies don't all have to be continuous and often are not.

I didn't say people will die in a 70g impact...

What do you see that looks like GF? I am not sure what the red bits on the inside are, but the rest looks definitely like CF. As for absorbing energy, one of the most efficient absorption methods is breaking off, since CF takes a lot of energy to break, and when it does, it also breaks of at speed, which represents

If you look inside the channel just behind the absorption area, you definitely see some carbon peeling into it, too. That might be from the top of the cone, and would make sense since the top of the cone is angled down, so it would be more likely to deflect to the inside.

You definitely wouldn't, but considering how it will all settle down in a second and you should be wearing a race helmet, that's not an issue.

Not necessarily. Ralf Schumacher's crash at Indy was at around 200 mph and caused some stupid high G forces (which I don't remember and don't want to exaggerate), but all he had were a couple cracked vertebrae.

1) They crash tested what they needed to crash test, or maybe they did (and had to do) other parts, but just didn't post the video. That does not mean the rest of the car was not designed to survive any impacts. These guys aren't 5th graders.

I am interested to see where you found ANY reference that I might have made to the 787. I did not argue that the Comet crash was in any way similar or dissimilar to the problems the 787 is having.

The 1st definition of a "window", according to Merriam Webster:

I think you are misunderstanding a few things here:

Let me rephrase "the scope of those problems was not as well understood":

For those interested, Summers holds a bachelor's degree in anthropology and a master's in health administration, in addition to speaking French and German. Playboy says she's currently pursuing her M.D. to become a plastic surgeon.

Sometimes I think they should give account one multi-recommendation vote per day/week/whatever. This is one of those times.

Don't know for sure, but here's a fun story:

Kennedy made it a big deal, but he didn't do anything out of proportion. He instigated the blockade, which was easy enough since Cuba is essentially a neighbor, but he didn't actually attack any Soviet ships or do anything of the kind.

See, that's why we're really fucked. We actually have a president who, in order to cover his "tough on foreign jerks" base, is violating as many tenets of the Amendments as anyone before, and he STILL gets called soft. So, this means that a Republican would be expected to go even further, and would probably be only

No, because if the majority of Americans actually learned history, then they would stop supporting the government's repeated (successful) attempts at re-enacting it.

And that was how Kennedy successfully dealt with the Cuban Missile Crisis, right? He "put his foot down".
