NO NO NO NO NO NO. The carbon fiber BODY PARTS are designed to shatter. The sandwich monocoque "survival cell" (that's what they call it in F1) is designed to withstand anything short of a fucking train.

No way! A racing car using complex CFRP sandwich structures, even 15 years ago, will have undergone far more FEM than a Camry, and proper FEM, analyzing for more complex loadings as well as larger loadings. The best car of a decade ago still blows today's Camry out of the water in terms of structural optimization.

Nope nope nope. The i3 video just proves it: the cockpit of these cars is designed to be practically impenetrable; even in the side-impact test, you see a maximum ~10 inches of deflection. With the Prosche, there is complete catastrophic failure of the monocoque structure of the cockpit, which means that the tree

That's not entirely true. The monocoque is designed to separate from the assembly holding the engine, but the picture makes it look like the cockpit itself was absolutely destroyed. If the fire did not cause that damage, the speeds were many times higher than "45mph".

You're right in that most people don't understand how CFRP works. The issue here, however, is that the damage we're looking at is not just CFRP body and structure components breaking. You're looking at the cell of the car, which is a CFRP sandwich with (normally) some kind of honeycomb (aluminum is the strongest cheap

No, but it is totally understandable that you think that. The US government and the US media has done everything in their power to brand Iran to be the worst regime in the Middle East when it comes to personal freedoms, harboring terrorism, and danger to the rest of the world.

Honestly, they could also hire you just to write articles, or edit (aka proof-read) them, which these guys seem to avoid. A couple of days back, I read "structural rigidness" on here.... nearly gouged my eyes out.

Bingo. I saw the title and came here to say that, with a slight difference. The (unnecessary) military spending of this country dwarfs any amount that may have been given to a company that was trying to create something new and useful, albeit with terrible management (maybe they're learning from military and NASA

What did it look like on the inside? Extremely concept-y. You had a hollow, hubless drive-by-wire steering wheel with paddle shifters and a carbon fiber beam instead of the instrument panel. Who needs gauges when you can have more structural rigidness, right? That's what I've always said.

Whataburger? That's self-respect?

Are you kidding? He made a comment on the car, and got personally attacked for it. Only then did he get defensive in his comments. I get that he could have defended his original comment with a little less aggression, but he has no duty to act like he's Buddha.

From a linguistic point of view, "all the vents for vents' sake" does not necessarily mean that all of the vents on the car are purely aesthetic, but rather calls out all of the vents that are. It's not brilliant communication, but it's not wrong, and does not say what you assumed it does.

Uhhh, civic? What're you doing here?

To be honest, though, as someone who's stuck way out in the shallow south, I'll gladly accept residence in SF, LA, or SD. Wouldn't even need an extra second to consider before packing up again and driving back.

Uhhhhh, both the women and the weed (also cheaper) are better up north (source: 8 years in So Cal, 4 years in Nor Cal), and the weather's debatable....

"Mostly ghetto"????? I'm seriously confused here. Might have to explain your definition of ghetto before we go further with this little gem

Indifference? Most people that I've known in California have had one (wholly different opinion) toward San Diego: they want to live there.

Compared to Orange County? Yeah, yeah it is.

Yeah, Orange County would have been much more appropriate, though, come to think of it, I kinda like Huntington Beach... it actually has something going for it. How about we make it an honorary member of LA County and call it good? After all, there's a guy in there driving a Lambo with a bear sitting shotgun....

I finally get it! The R8 was just a long-term design study for this — at least for the grill and cockpit profile.
