I’ve never actually tasted zebra mussel, but given that they’re said to filter heavily polluted water, I can’t imagine they taste very good. Or are even reliably non-toxic.

I suppose it depends on how the show itself actually shakes out. Is it going to be a standard teen sitcom starring actual teen actors with Melissa Joan Hart only there as the parental figure and as a sort of value-added extra appeal to any older folks who might tune in? Or is it actually going to be centered on…
As I referenced before that type of clothing of the zero suit is common in gymnasts and in people who wear large shoulder pads.
Right. And the moment that Samus Aran is an actual person that question might become relevant. As it is, the suit design isn’t even credited to a woman. So what “beautiful athletic women like” is almost entirely beside the point, because no women were actually in the position to have any such preference one way or the…
That definitely hasn’t helped them, but it feels like they’ve been on the decline (around my neck of the woods, anyway) for a little bit longer than that. I suspect it’s just too expensive to lease the space, which required the higher ticket/concession prices, which made them marginally less appealing in comparison to…
Second-run theaters, you mean? They’re not as common as they used to be, but there are still a few around, yeah. Even there, though, tickets are more than a dollar. Matinee prices are around $4, with evening shows at $6, last time I checked.
I’ve secretly suspected that a lot of our past presidents would never have passed a security clearance background check under any other circumstances. I don’t know of anything that would have ruled Obama out, and George Bush the Elder was formerly head of the CIA, so he presumably did pass the check at some point in…
Movie ticket prices vary wildly from place to place. In my neck of the woods I don’t think we’re up to $18 yet for a normal ticket, but 3D showings are $16, and even the cheapest matinee tickets are in the $11-12 range. In larger cities than mine, it’s more than that. On the flip side, I’ve been to smaller and more…
I don’t want to repeat what I’ve said in other replies too much, and a lot of the points you raise are fair, anyway. I will say, however, that I didn’t criticize the Zero Suit for being too “revealing,” I criticized it for being too sexualized. The two are often related, but not identical. If it looked more like…
Ah, well, in my defense I don’t have a Switch yet.
I really don’t see Nintendo promoting Zero Suit Samus that much.
It definitely shows up in Other M. It’s not as central as it was in Zero Mission, but it’s more than just a low-complete-time reward, and it does play a role in the story sequences. It also has wedge heels there, IIRC. It also shows up as bonus or DLC-style alternate costumes in a bunch of non-Metroid/non-Smash Bros.…
Fair enough, I suppose. I still think the high profile nature of the Smash Bros. games makes her appearances in them notable, especially given that a number of the proper Metroid games in that period were lower profile spin-offs and/or handheld titles, and I don’t think it fundamentally changes my point, but mea culpa…
Zero suit not practical? So underwear not practical then either.
The thing is that it is an excuse, though. I mean, it’s certainly not “she breathes through her skin” levels of pathetic, sure, but it’s ultimately a rationalization for the fact that the devs want to put Samus Aran in a skintight catsuit as much as they can. We don’t particularly need to see Samus out of power suit,…
That’s fair enough, I suppose. I don’t like the stealth segments of Zero Mission itself, but that’s more of an implementation thing than anything else: the concept itself isn’t terrible. But even if the Zero Suit made sense in the context of that one game, it hasn’t made anywhere near as much sense in any subsequent…
I always thought of the Zero Suit as an interface between Samus and her Power Suit. Something that allows her to control the Suit without being completely naked if/when she loses/removes it. So I’ve never had any issues with it being impractical or “sexualized”.
I can’t stand it [the original Zero Suit, that is]. It’s completely absurd as any kind of practical attire, and is blatantly sexualized (the fact that it’s skin-tight is one thing, but the high heels? Really?!). And even that wouldn’t bother me so much (I mean, I play video games, so I’ve had to learn to live with it,…
The designs are (probably self-consciously) weird... but I dig them. If nothing else, the Zero Suit redesign is a thousand times better than the horrible thing Nintendo’s been pushing since Zero Mission.
I assume you’re kidding, but for anyone else who doesn’t know, Sagittarius A*, complete with the asterisk, is the actual name of the black hole. Sagittarius A (no star) refers to the larger radio source of which Sag A* is a part.
