This is probably well known to others, but I only recently discovered the charming 1969 homage (I wouldn’t call it a parody) short film made in the UK (which actually scored a hit single apparently from Engelbert Humperdinck).

When a skeptical French TV interviewer asked Demy why he had his characters sing their restaurant orders when people don’t do that in real life, Demy simply replied, “Why not? It would make life more pleasant!”
My favourite miscalculation going into this is the sad-sackness of Sandman, who has this “I’m not a bad man, I’ve just made some bad mistakes” thing going on. He didn’t mean to shoot your uncle, he was just robbing him with a loaded gun and his finger was on the trigger and pointed and him and oops!
This movie is an absolute mess, but I’m glad that people are coming around on the dancing. I always thought Parker dancing through the sidewalk and the jazz club were the two best moments in the film, and they show off Raimi’s unique use of camp and tonal shifts. No superhero film would even attempt that today.
I always thought it was odd he lived in that dream house, with a beautiful wife, a son who owns a factory and lobster for dinner.. Meanwhile I live in a single room over a bowling alley and under another bowling alley.
Not really discussed in this article but Dead Man’s Chest was a huge leap forward in special effects. The film was a gigantic upgrade in on set motion capture performance technology not just in body motion, but facial animation as well.
it really was the perfect part for Bloom...I think he’s a pretty terrible actor but everything that was wrong about him in Kingdom of Heaven was right for him here, and the fact that he was kind of dippy gave Knightly’s character extra sharpness and agency
Hahaha. I walked thru the den the other week and my kids were watching some pirate show on Disney Jr. and one of the characters said something like, “Helping others is what being a pirate is all about.” I was like, girls, that is not what being a pirate is about, at all
I would rank Rogue One as the 3rd best Star Wars movie (I admittedly haven’t seen Solo or Rise of Skywalker).
Sure we can make movies about a woman falling in love with a tilt-a-whirl and everyone is all gushing over it but you try to fuck one robot pirate at Disneyland and you get banned for life.
Yeah you could definitely tell they were trying to do the traditional triangle in the first few episodes but then Betty and jughead happened and kept their hands tied for the next four seasons. I love tiera in the final season of once upon a time
Thing is, he doesn’t really owe us details - it’s an open secret that Joss Whedon is a piece of crap. We didn’t know the details of him firing Charisma, but it’s been known he did it because she was pregnant for a long time. And his ex-wife wrote an open letter a few years back detailing some of his abuse and…
I wholly agree that her father should be no where near the conservatorship and it should be an independent person. Britney has requested a corporate fiduciary and that makes far more sense than a parent.
Could you imagine Cheryl and Betty vomiting up all of their family drama onto the psychology professor to show him/her just what major psychosis really looks like?
Jughead was homeless when he was introduced and ends up full circle.
Similarly, I feel like Barman Begins is very much “in dialogue” with the Button\Schumacher films, the resistance of any of the a-list villains they used for a start. Now a lot of Batman seems to be "in dialogue" with the Nolan trilogy (and Dark Knight in particular)
Here, I’ll post the hottest take, a hill that I’m prepared to die on: “Hero” fucking slaps.
The dancing down the street bit has always worked for me because it reveals something fundamental about Peter Parker — even when he’s mind-controlled into being evil, he’s still a massive nerd with no real idea how to be cool. As punctuated by an endless series of confused and incredulous glares from pretty much every…
You think that no movie or television show should ever have roles for minors, ever?
