Also.. one thing of note, Donandsolville was home to the first black mayor in American history ANYWHERE. This happened in 1868 I believe.

I also have family that came to Donaldsonville LA in 1860 before the civil war. My relative was from Germany and Donaldsonville had a large German Protestant and Jewish population at the time.
