Oh I'm sure they are under pain of death clauses. Barrowman is kind of bad about spoiling some things and even he didn't spill about Malcolm's resurrection. I also think some actors appreciate not spoiling things for the audience too.

It was poorly acted IMO, but making that scene the closing scene exacerbated the problem . You have to nail those closing moments and especially given the weight it carried IMO it was glaringly bad.
