I try to stick with the ones with actual measurements, but then sometimes those vary a lot as well. It it has a green check mark, that’s a good sign. When in doubt I just ask Google and get something ball park close. I never get really close to my calorie counts for the day anyways and that’s working for me since I’m

You sort of eluded to the blog posts on the main menu of MyFitnessPal to be annoying, but I actually like them and read about 1/3rd of them fully. The recipe ones are pretty good I think for the most part. I like that the intergration with Google Fit seems to work OK. It picks up my steps and adds them to the exercise

I’m certain this is where a lot of inacuracies in calories stem from, but this can also be a bonus when you are eating in a restaurant that has no calories posted such as a diner or ma-and-pa whole in the wall. I usually peruse the similar meals and just pick the one with the higher calories listed to play it safe.

Not to mention that most free WiFi access is usually locked down by ports and seemingly only pass ports 80 and 443. That said, when I encounter this, you can tweak the settings to only go through those ports. Obviously this limits the security a bit, but at least your traffic is still encrypted.

Go get a copy of “The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook” by Julie Kaufmann and Beth Hensperger. You will be amazed at all the other uses for a rice cooker. Especially if you get the expensive ones with fuzzy logic.

Agreed.....so anyone reading this that has a Google Home should ask it to submit feedback (you can do that too) and let them know you want this feature. I’m hoping that when it says “I’m sorry I can’t do that yet” that is a sign it’s coming soon such as adding a reminder to your calendar.

Google Home can identify songs it’s playing (at least in Google Play Music) which is useful if you are listening to some currated list, but if you hear something you like, you can’t ask it to add it to your library. I think that would be super useful.

Add it to a pot of beans (bone too if you still have it), ham fried rice, ham and cheese omelets, ham egg and cheese breakfast burritos or tacos, ham hash, ham biscuits, ham alfredo tortellini. The possibilities on ham are endless. If you have a huge amount, dice it and freeze it in small portions to do anything

This is exactly what I do. It also has the side effect of being able to see it in low light if the red is a bright enough shade.

Osram sells a switch that is like this too that can be stand-alone or even mounted over top of an existing switch. Best I know though, it only works when you have their hub. I could not get my Samsung SmartThings hub to see it as a switch even though it added it to the devices list.

This is built into NewsBlur if you use their service for your RSS feeds. They added this a few months ago.

I do this for stir-fry ingredients all the time. That way I don’t need to buy a 1lb. bag of carrots or celery just for a single carrot or stalk.

It started out as a challenge to fulfill one of my bucket list items of learning a second language and since I love India and want to visit one day I took Hindi on as the challenge and it’s been fun. Fortunately there are good online resources for learning Hindi, but not so much with other languages like Tamil or

As someone who is learning another language I use translation apps all the time and have tried them all. Both of these are capable, but it really depends on what language you are using it for. I’m learning Hindi and found that Google Translate was far better at that language. The mobile Google Translate app supports

Hey, if you go to the liquor store before the storm, that’s OK....that is being prepared. If you go to the liquor store during the storm, then that is a different story. :-)

Disaster preparedness is one thing a lot of folks are woefully unprepared for.

The basic Wemo Switch is actually a pretty good price at $30. These are better than any $15 timer type switch because they can handle the full current of your outlet (15 amps) which means you can control window air conditioners or your washer machine. They are also internet connected so you can control them away from

I gave up on them when they pretty much stopped updating things. Firefox kept reporting the extension used to cleanup the page and to bookmark with as being unsecure and disabled it by default. I used it more for sending content to my Kindle, but there are other ways now to do the same.

Basically what @Jeebwize said. Use the chmod or chown commands to change read privledges or owner groups.

It should be noted it only supports the latest HDHomeRun tuners and not older ones. Seems to be the ones that do on-the-fly transcoding. If I had to guess, the Plex server is letting the HDHomeRun device do the transcoding and is just storing the data stream from the device.
