Personally I like it as an Air app....works cross OS (I use it on Windows and Linux) with the same features. You can sort of re-size the columns by setting them to narrow under general options. You can also set it to single column mode and move it out of the way of other windows. Then to get to the other columns just

I rarely use it for search. I have a full set of buttons for the webapps I use and I also use the translate button, Google Bookmarks, and the best thing, setting it to open GMail when I click a "mailto:" link.

The other "gotcha" is hopefully in 8-9 years you can still plug that hard drive into existing computer interfaces! Remember the laser disc? And I got a box of VHS tapes....no working player. Just a thought.

This is one of those "doh! should have known this" posts. Thanks cuz it helps on a tiny netbook I use FF on.

Unity has a few bugs, but runs awesome on my netbook. It's really good for smaller screens. On my desktops I'm running Gnome Classic, but there are times I miss Unity's features. My advise before dismissing it is to read the help info out there on what it can do and how to customize it (which can be done). Once you

Good timing, check out Lifehacker's Podcast for this week (available at [www.revision3.com)] for all about remote access options.

Ubuntu does the same. Open Firefox and in the search bar (default next to the address bar) drop down the arrow next to the selected search engine. Then select "Manage Search Engines..." and move the search engine of choice to the top. I think this fixes it. I have the Google Toolbar installed and that does stuff to

If your computer is connected to a router, then your Internet IP from your ISP is in the router. Most routers have some web based admin page. If you just want the IP address of your computer, then in a terminal window run the command "ifconfig" and you will get a list of all the details of your various interfaces

If you go the ATSC route, just make sure you have a decent antenna or you will be frustrated. I still have cable, but also an antenna and I find myself watching local channels over the antenna because the picture is a lot clearer than on cable and it will scale the HD channels for a SD TV (via a DTV converter box).

Wow, if those are unread counts you have a lot of catching up to do! Ha Ha... I used to use a dedicated reader until I discovered web based Google Reader and it's availability on nearly every platform. Any advantages of using a dedicated reader? And to throw a monkey wrench into things, I have Google Reader pinned as

"pop" it out and it becomes a separate window. The the usual Windows Alt-Tab combo (don't know the equivalent in MAC OS) will jump between the two.

I had the same problem. Somewhere water is getting behind the caulking. I removed the caulking and re-caulked. Caulking does get old and crack after awhile. I totally recommend spending the money on the two tools (usually packaged together) that remove old caulking and smooths out the new caulking. They also make a

Picasa is great, but Google's 2 Gigs is small. You can use Windows Live Photo Gallery (part of the Windows Live pack) to do some of the same things Picasa does and then upload your photos to Windows Live Sky Drive with it's 25G of free storage. Just a thought. Windows Live Photo Gallery will also upload to Flickr. I

A lot of people swear by Arcsoft's Total Media Theater and using Windows Media Center to watch the movies with. It's expensive, but if you plan on watching a lot of movies and want to connect that laptop to a TV, then WMC and Total Media Theater may be a good fit.

My bank will tell you up front whether it will be electronic or check, so that helps. Having the bank retrieve the statement from the vendor's systems alleviates it going to the wrong address. Not all accounts support this, but it's nice when it does!

I pay mine all online through my bank's bill pay, but not automatically. Instead, I setup recurring reminders on pay days through Remember the Milk to remind me of each bill due. As I click the pay button on the bank site and write it in my checkbook (yes...haven't gone electronic on that yet with Mint), I mark the

Maybe it's me, but the unread message count only seems to show numbers when messages are marked priority (using priority mailbox settings). If it worked for all messages it would be awesome since I use the apps tabs in Firefox/Chrome.

It's still there. I also had it disappear on me, but when I went back to the experiment page and turned it back on it's working again.
