Haha, I’m glad HEMA is appreciated on kotaku (and io9)!

There’s too much to go over, but I’m going to dispute the first point. People weren’t that short in the Renaissance period as far as we know. Populations started to “shrink” on average during the Industrial Revolution, but before (and after), people tend to be about the same height.
The blade length is actually fine. There are variations in length for montante/spadone/zweihander/great swords.
Except it’s not even that. It looks like a montante from historical treatises:
That was my first thought. I was like, “That’s perfectly fine, and definitely not something you’d find on eBay.”
http://I’m glad you mention HEMA since I’m a HEMAist myself in both German longsword + sword and buckler as well as British sabre!
Bullshit and ahistorical. No fault of your own, given Hollywood, documentaries, and even some scientific papers can’t seem to understand how Medieval armor works.
From someone who looks into historical armors.
Marvel Studio’s Daredevil: MLG Edition
I’m not sure this is unheard of in Hong Kong action movies. Donnie Yen in an interview mentioned that he has to do hundreds of takes of the same scene for his fight choreographies to ensure perfection as well.
I like the term anchor tank. It fits Reinhardt. Probably Orisa too!
In the past, that’s basically what shot Bombsoldier to fame in Melee.
Read it, thanks for the explanation. I never gave much thought to it, but it sounds like it makes sense.
Truth. I can’t judge collectors as I’m (an amateur) one myself (swords!), but even those collecting Nazi artifacts exclusively might not necessarily have any ulterior motive besides wanting to collect Nazi artifacts. One can be intrigued with the history of an item without believing any of its bullshit.
I touched that shit once and ever since then I’ve always appreciated that the pilots who fly me around never crashed.
That’s not a broadsword, dammit. It’s a longsword. :|
Not worth applauding but good riddance. I’m sure he’s better off in heaven.
Ironically, I feel that Shareena has one of the more realistic armors in the game. Still has the issue of exposed thighs, but the mail shirt sans boob plate looks so much more effective than anything else I’ve seen so far.
The HEMA community has several YouTubers who can educate you on the technical know-hows of armor, and most of them are easy to understand since they tend to explain it like you’re five (due to Hollywood and popular misconceptions).
I’m going to comment on her sword, since I collect these things and nobody seems to have done so:
