Not the most confusing. How about the Jaguar e-Pace and i-Pace? One is an EV, one is internal combustion... In that the e-Pace is internal combustion and i-Pace is EV.

The Volt can have the gas motor directly engage the wheels at high speeds where it is more efficient than pure electric cruising. 

It seems people get too hung up on it's electric range and then compare it to a pure EV. 40 miles of range is more than most people need. People fail to realize that they aren't driving 300 miles all at once. Just plug the Volt in at the end of the day just like your cell phone.
