I actually have a 1987 Fiero GT.  I drove it 250 miles a couple of weeks back...no fire from a hot muffler.  Use google to find the actual TSBs and recall letters, they list the throwing a rod and lack of maintenance (not changing or checking the oil) as the reasons for any fires or issues that caused any kind of heat…

Everyone is posting SUV/CUVs.  How about a small truck?  You can get a nice Nissan Frontier with 4x4 pretty reasonable...if you need the 4x4.  If not, even more reasonable...and they are about the same size as most mid sized S/CUVs.  Most around $20,000 for a very recent year.
