I didn’t have the exact words for why this article made me uneasy, but this is it. You nailed it. I support archival and even deeper rights for the end user of software than currently exist, but this... this feels wrong.

Well, seeing as how a couple of main characters are black males in the story mode, that argument is a bit soft. I agree that GTA is an equal opportunity hater, but when there’s literally only one type of trans person in the game, and it’s a stereotypical sex worker with a bulge and shit, it’s a little different.

The only problem is that then ALL you see are Energizer Batteries and Verizon signs.

Alan has a smartphone in the first game. Honestly, if you know a lot of outdoorsy people, they still have flashlights. It’s one thing to have a dinky little flashlight, but hiking-outdoorsy people still like their big heavy duty flashlights.

Those ads were such a surreal part of the game for me, one minute you’re fighting the darkness, the next you’re grabbing your Verizon phone and looking around for energizer batteries. I think I will miss them though, it added a bit of strangeness to a strange game.
