There have been people who have done insanely well with controllers. Wolfkorne and Luffy come to mind. They used the Fightpad,xb360, and ps1 OG (no analog stick) controller respectively.

I dont know of any arcade games that allow for custom controls. Last one i played was vanilla street fighter 4 and it allowed for no custom controls.

I bought a fight stick for home use and after a while the controller felt foreign. Although when i played at friends houses, they thought i waa crazy for using the 360 dpad. Never whiffed my inputs.
