It could be based on skill and region. I just assume region because MK8 was putting me in rooms with players predominantly in North East US (where i'm from). Would be cool if they would tell you what region you're playing against.
I've had 2 high level pikachus 0 to death me a few times in 1v1 smash, but they were 2 out of the few hundred matches. They exist, but they are very rare. Most of the high level play is done offline where lag isnt a factor.
I recently started getting into the whole forums ordeal and I kind of regret it, with the exception of one forum lol

That sucks, its part of the reason I wont go 4k for my comp. I like to leave things on their native scaling and steam may be downright unsuable outside of big picture. Maybe one day valve will make steam look prettier maybe one day well get some scaling or zooming within the default program.
The only thing i ask of steam is to allow me to resize the damned interface. All the text appear too small on my monitor. I wonder how the people with 4k monitors are dealing with it
