Yeah, being interested in the other person is a challenge. I know some people are interested in others who are passionate about anything, but I just can't do that. It's gotta be something I like too.

I've owned more than 10 cars in the last 2 years
just testing
I find that I do this, not because I want to, but because I HAVE to. It's the only way to get through conversations with most people, because they are talking about stuff I don't care about. And they don't want to talk about the stuff I DO care about.
I think networking just takes a certain kind of personality. The kind of person that is automatically interested in others, outside of the job. Because the only reason I'm interacting with most of the people in my industry (who are mostly very nice people - don't get me wrong) is that I work with them. So if I'm…
Just luck for me. I happened to have a friend who got me an interview in the IT department. The company culture was a good fit and I've been here 25 years!
Who?
All the hotels I've ever been to, have laundry rooms on at least a few floors. Or is this article more for people traveling to far-flung places?
I tell my wife I will make 3 suggestions. If she doesn't like any of those 3 then then she has to pick.
You suggest pizza, but the other person just had that last night. They suggest Chinese, but you were planning on having Chinese with family later on in the day.
Cucumbers are bitter? Really? Never heard about (or tasted) that!
I'm 40+ and I don't recognize any of the music. But then I don't think the rest of the crowd would want to listen to NPR.
I think the title should have been different, something about "How to make friends with superstars at conferences".
We must just be going to different kinds of conferences. At the conferences I attend, the keynote speakers are just motivational speakers, who are really just entertainment. Sure, they're sometimes interesting to listen to, but not someone I'm going to be able to query about how to install our new software, or how…
Make sure that the photocell can point out away from the house. If it points at a wall that is illuminated by the light, the light will just turn on and off all night. I accidentally did this when I was younger - I used a photocell socket on light on the ceiling of the porch. But the photocell couldn't see out into…
Listening to the other person and summarizing their points is always a good idea. I see the result of NOT doing this in meetings. All the time. People spend an hour arguing opposite sides of completely different points.
Sigh - what fantasy world do the people live in that write these articles?
Just remember that not everyone has the same idea of "fun".
Use a drywall cutting attachment with a 1/8th inch router bit to carve out letters in foam for Halloween decorations (signs, tombstones, etc)
Every time I read a letter like this, I just KNOW there is a guy close to her who is absolutely in love with her. But she just thinks of him like a friend because he isn't tall/handsome/buff/dangerous/assertive/take-your-pick-of-cliche-personality-traits.
