Stolen, used for joyriding or committing crimes until they run out of gas, low-level criminals have no means of selling them. So - abandoned.

This SFGate (kinda San Francisco Chronicle lite) article estimates that there are 3,000 cars that the city would be legally entitled to tow, and that some 11,000 requests for towing (for all reasons, not just abandonment) were received in the second half of calendar 2023. I would interpret the difference as multiple…
First new car I ever bought was a 1996 civic HX. In 2001 (with only 60k miles) some spanish guy with no insurance ran a red light and t-boned me. Was a manual too, fucking loved that car.
While not about Oakland, I did recently read about massive NYPD auctions for impounded cars; and how there were going to be a lot more due to their crackdown on ghost plates. One interesting tidbit: if the car has a note/lien/whatever on it, congrats, you now own said responsibility. Doubt cars sold here in CA will be…
/s or no? I hate the way we rename things to make it more palatable.
As someone who lives in the Bay Area, can you tell me: is Oakland really a town? I would think a place that hosted Major League Baseball for decades would qualify as a city...
thieves/gangbangers are pretty happy, right?
I live in the Bay Area. Its REALLY sad what has been happening in Oakland. I moved here 20+ years ago and Oakland was super scary even in the middle of the day. And then it slowly started to get cleaned up. It was actually pretty nice. Ever since the pandemic hit its just gone straight downhill. The abandoned cars is…
If they run an auction or two to clear cars out I’m high-key eyeing that rust-free Civic HX coupe.
City council approved funding for more tow trucks and lots? That’s a bandaid, not a fix. Fund the staff to contact owners/insurance companies and give them the opportunity to recover their vehicles. No response? Auction them off and profit.
We have the current gen and the only real issue is the third row. We did captains chairs in the second row and there’s a ton of legroom. But the third is really just for children. I do find it incredibly comfortable. The rear cargo space is definitely lesser than the largest American SUVs but driving those is an…
My god, seriously? We own the current gen and have a two-door garage, and have to be careful pulling in to not clip the mirrors. Surely that’s not right.
Holy shit!
Afraid not. The outgoing generation is 79.9-inches wide. This new one is 92.5-inches with the mirrors extended. Even with the mirrors folded, it’s still 8.4-inches wider than the last one.
12.6 inches wider (with the mirrors extended)
Would’ve been good to see some standard hybridization of this powertrain, as Toyota does with the 3.4L in the Sequoia. Getting tired of seeing this hogs on the road without any attempt at greater efficiency.
With it only being an inch longer, I doubt it. I’ve had the QX80 & Armada as rentals and that cramped interior relative to tank exterior really keeps it a notch below the Tahoe/Yukon. If you’re not towing, just about any full size 3-row SUV is a better choice for cheaper too.
Hope the interior is actually bigger this time. Because the current one has an embarrassingly cramped interior for a vehicle of that size. The problem is that everything is too big inside. The dash is massive. The seats are thick, but not very comfortable.
I miss my Flex, practical, comfortable and a great highway cruiser.
I was talking to a close friend that is trying to replace her Ford Flex and has 3 tall dogs and does not want a giant suv but wants a wagon. all the crossovers are sloped in the back taking away room for tall children and tall dogs.
