And if they made those as recently as the Defender we’d probably see a cult following for them too.

Yeah, but we had snow this week and I can’t imagine leaning over a standard height (looks standard height) engine compartment of a modern pickup and not getting filth all over my clothes. These something more cab forward like the hideous Fiat or slightly less hideous Transit would allow for a lower reach-in height.

Same here. I just had this discussion with a coworker. He is in his late 40's, I’m 29. He wishes he pulled the trigger on a defender in ‘96 and anxiously awaits their return. I told him that they have been out of the country so long that young people like me don’t think of them like he does. We view the wrangler as

Hot Take:

Chilewich, the stuff they’re using for the seats, has been used for placemats for ages.  It won’t hold a stain as it’s made of plastic, and seems to wear forever.  I had a phone case covered with Chilewich and it looked new its entire life.  It’s a great choice for seating fabric, especially in a vehicle that is

It looks well thought out and well baked but faces 2 huge hurdles

Long time truck owner here. I think this would be more than enough vehicle for the vast majority of folks who buy trucks. The 10% of us who do actual truck things won’t buy it, but we don’t buy short bed double cab trucks any way.

I’ve worked with the guys over at Rivian on some product development work. They have a truly brilliant team, I can’t wait to see these in production.  Scaringe is a genius and it shows.

This is the first electric vehicle that I am genuinely excited about.

It would be great if this space was heated with drain holes in the floor so the snow will melt off my board and boots.

I’m not a pickup truck person (nothing against them, I just don’t need that hardware more often than once every few years), but this truck addresses my biggest issue with the current (pun intended) state of the art of electric vehicles: range.

“The large bed is wide enough to store a sheet of plywood”so as wide as every truck bed and as long as a short bed not a long bed... So as truck beds go, small. Construction guys feel free to correct me if im off base but to find a truck that can’t fit plywood your probably need a Subaru Brett since even a Ridgeline

Honestly?  The frunk is perfect and a well needed addition for a truck.  If you’re hauling groceries or something for a quick errand and have people in the back you have no weather safe storage room without a bed cover.  Having a bed cover means having to remove it whenever you have something taller than the bed

They apparently haven’t been paying attention to truck styling trends. The hood should be 6-12 inches higher and the bumpers need to have fold down steps so a normal human can access the cargo areas.

My old CJ5 is a jeep, you have a Chrysler. Don’t kid yourself.

10/10 would use this to deliver marijuana to squaw.

“the largest being a 180 kW battery pack” - slight correction, this should be 180 kWh. Kilowatt hours are a unit of energy capacity, kW refers to power.

Some may think its ugly, but I predict it to have the best resale of any vehicle on the market. Better than the tacoma, better than wrangler. I lost $4,000 on my first wrangler after 6yrs and 92,000mi. So far it looks like I lost $2500 in 60,000mi on my 2nd. I look forward to buying my 3rd jeep wrangler, either truck

USB ports are the new cupholders... 10 has to be the minimum!

Given that this is going to be built in my hometown I’ve been interested in what it looks like for awhile, glad to finally see a concept. If Rivian actually starts producing this thing I’ll be shocked, they have a long way to go and that Mitsubishi plan needs a ton of refitting/retooling so there is a ways to go
