We have a 2021 Highlander Hybrid. It does fairly well off-road. Thanks for this note; would hate to have the bumper come off in the middle of nowhere. Is there a separate recall for our Highlander’s horrific panel gaps?

California updated its regs last summer (August, I think) to incentivize strong PHEVs starting in the 2026 model year. So in two years, we might actually see some more awesome PHEVs, especially in the large truck or SUV catagory.

Yup. The footprint exemption means a vehicle with a bigger wheelbase and width has lower requirements.

Yup. Hard to take the complaints seriously when the footprint rule still exists.
