Well the answer so far is to increase the requirements for car occupant safety which thickens the pillars, shrinks the windows, raises the beltlines, raises the hood height, etc.

Agreed. It did fine for a low-traffic 35 mile commute. We had charging there and at home. Definitely better at lower speeds.
