Jon Hunt, Toyota’s head of commercialisation of hydrogen fuel cell cars, told Auto Express that manufacturing a lithium-ion battery for an electric car is a “very energy-intensive” process.

Yeah, for hybrids and plug-in hybrids I’ve driven a few: Fusion Hybrid. Fusion Energi. Prius Hybrid. Prius Prime. Volt Gen 1. Volt Gen 2, BMW X5 PHEV, i3 REx (technically not a PHEV but whatever), Pacifica (plug-in) Hybrid... many miles.

This.

How about this: the Prius is a hybrid tuned to save gas but like a Prius to drive. The Volt is a hybrid that also plugs into the wall and has significant “punch it Chewie” power.

It’s also clear what’s largely missing from that list (and even including the PHEVs): plug-in versions of crack cocaine, I mean mass market SUVs and crossovers, that we can’t get enough of.

Nicht wirklich. Kein Platz.

They are hella good, especially Gen 2, but you can’t beat Gen 1 for what it does for the price.

This.

In all fairness, that was 100% driver error. :) There was about four inches of fresh snow atop a dirt and gravel road; the driver swung wide around a turn and slide into the drainage ditch.

Yeah. SIL’s is a 2006 and does surprisingly well off-road... most of the time:

This.

Previous owner of 500e (and put tons of miles on both the Gen 1 LEAF and iMiEV): can confirm. The 500e is a ton of fun, better in some ways than my carpool-mate’s 500 Abarth (ducks/dodges rocks). Some ways.

Yeah, I took my sister-in-law’s MDX into the local Acura dealer for the airbag recall several years ago. The dealer was big - had about two dozen service bays. All were filled with MDXs.

Lived in (southern) Germany for about four years... they might say:

Perfect for hauling livestock, one anyway, with goggles.

The merger of equals followed by Cerberus was a tough one-two punch indeed.

True. A Jeep CJ is (front) mid-engined. Works for me.

I do wonder about the unintended consequences of thicker A, B, and C pillars (for improved rollover safety) coupled with higher hoodlines (for pedestrian safety): terrible outward visibility.

1.1 horsepower?
