Starred for the smoke break at 6k.

According to the diva website, this race had 411 participants. So I imagine there was less of a “just go with the crowd” element than a race with thousands of other people.

Honestly I can’t tell if you people are this disingenuous or really this easy for populists to manipulate.

Sure, they may not be physically restricted from leaving, but some may not have anywhere to go.

“It also involved the execution of at least eight search warrants and the seizure of cash and property assets valued in the millions.”

But aside from the evidence what proof is there?

How big are we talking, though?

Jesus effing Christ, people. Read the goddamn article and click on the links if you want to see the source material.

They may not be physically restricted from leaving, but they speak maybe 10 words of English (8 of which they learned solely for “work”), don’t read English at all, don’t have access to sufficient money or their passports, and don’t have phones that aren’t monitored. It’s so sickening, and I hope they throw everything

It’s a good thing they weren’t only talking about Trump supporters then, eh?

Change is not always good.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. The posturing I was referring to was their rhetorical positioning of themselves as unlike any other politicians who came before them. Politicians’ bullshit should always be eye-roll-worthy even if I believe in the pol’s ideas.

I should be more clear, I know that, but the reality is there are more people in the universe than these 3 ladies and Donald Trump supporters.

Look, if you don’t want to join the Stasi, you’re basically a coward.

There are plenty of people who disagree with these ladies who also want what’s best for the people they represent.

Which, while being true, sort of belies the image that these ladies have projected of themselves or representing something vastly different and superior to existing politicians.

“Us vs. Them” is evergreen in politics and in culture. It shores up the base and steamrolls areas of agreement in favor of constantly raising the stakes.

It’s almost like the young bloggers of SplinterKidzNewz didn’t learn about the French Revolution, or maybe they’re not in 9th grade yet.  The good news about that though at the end of it, a bunch of ‘radical’ leftists ended up separated from their heads via the very same mechanism they put in place for ‘change’

I think we have a beef with almost anyone here because there’s a lack of courage. It seems like we’re all radical because we deeply care about the people we represent and we want to throw down for them

A few times in history there have been big, bold, young and exciting new ideas that were criticized by stodgy old skeletons who were about to die soon anyway. Heads rolled, fortunes were repossessed, and mansions were filled with the poor and deserving. A new day had dawned!
