Oh, yeah. I am perpetually amazed at how much some people struggle with modern technology. Consumer technology is very user-friendly. I don't think the actual using of the hardware is what kids need help with (though even Waldorf schools start with computers before 18). Learning how to behave on the internet is

"Sexy KKK"

None of the things that you typed in your original (or follow-up) comment were in response to anything I actually said. Instead, you resorted to a straw man (read more about straw men here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man).

You: I was dumped into social media at 18 and I'm just fine. I actually run quite a few accounts for the business I work for.

I reread my comment, thinking a gremlin had taken over for me, and typed that their lives would be ruined, or that they wouldn't have any friends, but no. Maybe you can try replying to my actual comment.

Those people send their kids to those schools because they know that they'll be getting plenty of tech time at home. They're not sequestering their children in a technological void.

No one *needs* facebook/twitter/cell phones. But they're a part of how the world operates, and knowing how to use them can only help them in the real world. Dumping them into it at 18 with no idea about how to use it is stupid. Why wouldn't you want your kid to start using these tools while you're there to guide them,

Every time I see some religious group (Mormons, Jews, Catholics, etc.) joining forces with the hardcore crazy Evangelicals, I'm just like "dudes, they hate you almost as much as they hate the people whose lives you're helping them ruin."

You mean you don't give yourself raises and promotions?!?! I thought those were based on your own good feelings about your self worth!

I tend to agree. I am not in a super corporate environment, but I've heard from friends who work in places that are male dominated, and they are expected to not take the entire FMLA leave that they're entitled to. A friend who is a lawyer was very clear about the fact that taking 3 months off would greatly impact her

I won't pretend that you would not be treated as an "other" if you were to walk around in clothes that have a "foreign" association with them. That's wrong. But it's still not the same thing as the government telling you that you have to wear them.

Is there somewhere in the western world where it is mandated that women wear bikinis? I have no beef with women choosing to wear burqas OR string bikinis (though I understand neither impulse), but when the government mandates your attire, can we honestly talk about it as though it's a choice that is being made?

"move in with your Uncle Ralph, who demands that, in lieu of rent, you sing to his canary, Brutus, and also itemize his hockey card collection"

Oh god, I would buy one for everyone I know.

We can move it on over to the sculpture garden area, or Loring Park!

It was so amazing! It sounded like they will do one next year, everyone come to Minneapolis!

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I'd be down with a law that made it a crime to for the recipient to pass it on to someone else. Send a picture of yourself? Cool. Send a picture of someone else? Not okay.

I was telling someone at work about this, and when we looked up her age, we were both like SHIT, REALLY? She will always seem younger in my head.
