Charles, you are correct: This movie would have been better if there had been less character tension and drama. We don’t want Bob to have a lesson to learn and room for improvement as a character. Stories with no drama and one-dimensional characters are always better.

Yeah, that sadly seems to be par with a lot of this generation of i09 writers. I very much enjoy the site, and unconditionally endorse it as a progressive place that champions neglected and marginalized voices in the sci-fi and nerd scene, but a lot of times there just seems to be some very foundational nuts and bolts…

From what I’ve seen, the author’s MO is basically to find an issue of identity politics in a film where there’s a perfectly legitimate conversation to be had and then to proceed with a petty interpretation spiced with just a note of not understanding how humans actually behave.
