I’ll definitely admit I am not a sociologist and everything I say should be treated as highly suspect. My mode of measuring for this particular statement was percentage of an at-risk population that goes through the ringer in our “justice”/prison system.

Often what girls need flies under the radar because they’ve been taught how they have to present, though. They’ve been told to shut up and sit down, and been taught how that will be their key to future success as well.

With all due respect, the study you cite is one school in Windsor, Ontario that ended in 1972, so hardly a “we”. Also this:

Did you not read the article at all? Because it sure seems like you didn’t read the fucking article.

I am pretty skeptical that there is much commonality between this proposed DC school for boys and a privileged all boys private school.

I had the same thought. When I taught in San Francisco, there was an after school computer coding class for girls only. I really wonder what the Jezebel thought on that would be. I did support the girls’ coding class. But not as strongly as I support the DC boy’s school. Those public high school boys in SF weren’t

I’m torn by this. Gender segregation is not okay, but at the same time black boys are literally the most at risk demographic in the United States today. If I think of it less about gender and more about demographic then it seems less gregarious, but it is definitely a slippery slope and ignoring it this once makes

Also, this article pays short shrift to the views of the girls who would get their own school, as noted in the WaPo article. The girls didn’t want the school, they wanted - and will get - something else. Being knee-jerk cuts both ways, and this click-baity article irritates me.

Is that true? Even if it is true, it really is the boys who need more help since they are lagging so far behind.

Because it sure seems like if it’s to help school-age girls get into STEM, Jezebel is all for it...but if it’s to help boys with the problems boys have, then it’s sexist and excludes girls.

I used to work with kids in this demographic, and if I’m being honest the boys needed A LOT more attention and intervention than the girls. I think that this school sounds like an imperfect solution, but I absolutely noticed an achievement gap between the boys and the girls I worked with. This doesn’t mean girls

Bill Hicks had a bit about that: “God planted those fossils!” “Why?” “To test our faith!” “Oh yeah? I think God put you here to test mine.”

i’ve known dinosaurs were real since i was little. before i even was in school and learning science.

“Right where you’re standing, sitting, or squatting, a very large dinosaur may have been stomping around millions of years ago”

I want Closer by Nine Inch Nails at my wedding.

I’m afraid i’m one of the lyrically dyslectic/illiterate.

I would totally call the cops on you. Sorry. I’m sure it’s art and everything, but that’s creepy.

I didn’t either, until I heard Ani’s rendition above and now I can’t unhear it.

Same. I love one and hate the other. Hint for anyone interested: my fantasy football team is No Scrubs.

I’m gonna be honest. I don’t hear it at ALL.
