Man, I loved After Life.. such a thoughtful, beautiful film. and the fact that many of the people asked to describe their one memory that they would live and relive for eternity were real people, strangers on the street interviewed on camera like a documentary, the answers given were often poetic. Definitely a

That used to be a big thing here in Calgary, back in the day. They were called boat races. The rules were you needed to have at least one woman on the team of 5, and once the glass was finished, you had to put it upside down on your head. That way, if there was any beer left in the glass you paid a small price.

He also played a romantic lead in a beautiful little movie, Bread and Tulips.. Its still amazing to watch him in Bread and Tulips and then in Downfall and realize its the same person.. both wonderful performances!

Me too… After the film showed, and we were all in a state of shock and despair, we found out that the director and two of the stars were there, to talk about the film afterwards. Holy fuck is right. The film was hard enough to get through. Seeing them there afterwards..everyone was pretty messed up after that.

Actually, I quite liked those songs, and that album, at the time..also, words from the wise, spooky boogie, and others.. However, I've never heard any other Gentle Giant apart from that album, so perhaps I have more to research here.. but I remember thinking that record just sounded good.. Giant for a Day I think it

Yes, I'm a fan of Community, and was surprised by how subtle but yet significant the difference was between the 5th and 4th seasons, when Harmon rejoined. I hope the 6th season works for it.. I'm crossing my fingers, but the loss of some of the main characters will also be a challenge for that show.

Ahh yes… those are indeed similarities..point taken. On another note, one regret of the potential that Murder One had but wasn't able to capitalize on, was that it would have been easy to set up a new mystery each season that had no connection to the season before it, and thus grow and cultivate a following to the

You're right about Twin Peaks.. it was several years before Murder One. And I suppose the soaps, both daytime and night time, did the serialized show structure for years before either show. I guess I was thinking in terms of law and order type crime shows, where a case was usually solved in each episode. it seemed

That, and no one seems to give credit to them for coming up with the concept. Everyone seems to think 24 invented this radical conceit of the season long storyline, whereas I think Murder One was ten years earlier..

Me too! Its still great television..

Yes.. Teddy was the man. It was powerful television, but I remember the critics concerned that people wouldn't be able to get behind a show that took all season to resolve its story. You couldn't come in halfway through, for instance, and figure out what was going on. How silly we were back then…I have the dvd and it

Does anyone else remember Murder One? A phenomenal first season that created the season long story arc made famous years later by 24, performances by Daniel Benzali and Stanley Tucci that were fantastic, and a gripping storyline that kept you enthralled from week to week.. well, it did for me, anyway.. the ratings

Heavens to murgatroyd!

Also, for extra credit, Buckingham's "Out of the Cradle" solo release is beautiful. Still.

My Aunt bought me the original Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits as a Christmas present (the one BEFORE Rumours, with Peter Green, et al..) because she thought that would have all the hits on it… her mistake, my gain. Oh Well is a stone cold classic, and Green Manalishi is fabulous as well.. Maybe not essential, but

Saw this film at the Calgary International Film Festival in September, where it was also an audience award winner. Loved it. Just an amazing show that has scenes I still think about, weeks later. Well worth seeing. JK Simmons is fantastic.

I saw this a couple of days ago at the Calgary International Film Festival.. It was as Dowd says, fabulous look and feel, and a great story. Maybe its not Coraline or ParaNorman, but no one I attended with seemed to care. It was a very enjoyable romp, especially for a family film. I think the grade is about right,

dear zachary? Starts out as a story to a young boy about the father he never knew.. and ends up.. oh so much more different than that… I had figured for sure this would have been on this list.

Yay! I'm not sure I've not already 'cough cough' seen these episodes somehow, but I sure hope they are new ones.. at least, new to me… I do miss this show, and the cancellation of Happy Endings was a bitter, bitter pill…

your loss… :)
