So....
So....
yeah, I hate to be a downer, but trying to make "you can only rape captives WITH PERMISSION" into "rah rah girl power!" is a bit of a stretch
sounds like she just changed it so she had a monopoly on rape, giving permission slips to do it...
From the WaPo:
No kidding.
Look, I dislike Brietbart as much as the next person, but an investigation into an allegation of an extremely serious crime that implicates an apparently innocent person that has the same name, political affiliation and attended the same small liberal arts school at the same time as the person that Dunham named in her…
I thought the issue was that the "Barry" in the story shared more than a few similarities with this other, apparently non-raping Barry, including the conservative politics and hosting a radio show and stuff like that. Of course, I got all this from the Breitbart article so who knows if it's accurate. I don't like Lena…
Despite the fact that "Lena Dunham might have been raped at Oberlin College, but the 'Barry' she describes in her memoir is a ghost" (yes, this piece includes many, many sentences as terribly written as that), facing pressure from said journalists who had spent their time desperately trying to out a man who is…
in my years as a fact checker at a few major magazines, stating that names have been changed is actually done to avoid these types of problems. I don't know if book publishers regularly do it too and this was an oversight, or if they just don't consider it an issue. but, really, it's the smart move to help avoid…
thank you for posting this. i was wondering how jezebel would defend dunham's disgustingly careless and callous actions. now i know :)
Are they going to also change the part where Dunham describes how she molested her little sister?
I also really enjoy the newsroom. I agree that the plot line of this last episode was problematic but the rest of this article just comes off as sour grapes.
color me incredibly unsurprised that the Greek system thinks it's the REAL victimized party
The article was accusing that entire fraternity of planning gang rape every year as part of their initiation. You don't think they're owed an apology?
The credence isn't being given to the frat. It's being given to the extensive reporting done since the story came out by both Rolling Stone and the Washington Post that shows her story is, if not entirely false, significantly different than what actually happened.
I mean, I agree, that is likely but could you actually find the evidence you need to win the bet without resorting to not fact checking potentially compromised sources, because that's kind of the problem here...
You can do things to increase your chances of being struck by lightning or being falsely accused of impropriety.
The most common argument I see from white people re Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin is "why make it about race? This could happen to anyone." If any of those people had a glimmer of open mindedness, stories of "criming while white" might have an impact. But as with anything on twitter, everyone's…
I doubt there is very much data on gay marriage or divorce at this time. Give it time. The article is looking at trends over time, when gay marriage DIDN'T exist.
